Adolph M. Foerster’s Piano Quartet No. 2 received its premiere on January 1, 1896, at Carnegie Hall in Pittsburgh. According to a note written by Foerster on the manuscript of the full score, the performers included Eugene C. Heffley (piano), Adolph Rothmeyer (violin), Harry Hetzel (viola), and C. H. W. Ruhe (cello). The score also indicates it was performed again on May 7, 1897, at the Pittsburgh Club Theater on Penn Avenue. That performance included Edward Rothleder (violin), Harry Hetzel (viola), Arthur Metzdorff (cello), and Foerster on piano.
