William H. Oetting was an organist, composer, and educator.
Pittsburgh native William H. (Henry) Oetting (October 14, 1875–October 29, 1969) began his music studies with his father, and then studied composition with Harry G. Archer and organ with Hugo Reimann in Berlin. He was a founding member of the Pittsburgh Musical Institute, which opened its doors on May 1, 1915. He taught organ and composition at the institute and became its president in 1920. A prolific composer, Oetting’s works range from various pieces for the organ (including arrangments for organ of other composers’ works), songs, anthems for choir, and symphonic works.
