Although no complete copyright deposit exists in the Library of Congress for “Bury Me in the Morning, Mother” a copy was deposited on January 31, 1863, by Horace Waters of New York. After being released as a single sheet, the song was published in Waters’ Golden Harp for Sunday Schools (New York: Horance Waters, 1863). It then appeared in The Athenaeum Collection of Hymns and Tunes for Church and Sunday School (New York: Horace Waters, 1863). In 1864 Waters published the song in sheet music format as No. 20 in his “Foster’s Melodies” series.
